Media (traditional and non-traditional) keeps calling people they disagree with names, especially the “ism” names. Reporters ask people what they mean when they insult another by saying he/she is a socialist, fascist, etc. Most are unable to define fascist, socialist, communist, or capitalist.

Seriously – if you are going to call another person a name, at least be able to explain WHAT the insult means. Know history (the War of 1812 was NOT between the US and Canada as one Congressperson recently spouted). If you want to protest, be able to articulate the reason for the march, and what the ultimate goal is.

Back in 2009, Jack Yost from the Management Training of DC put out a simple explanation of social nomenclature. His is still one of the easiest to understand. It is a fun read that attempts to describe various social systems. A lot more than the ones I copied are on the entire site.

“Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one of them and gives it to your neighbor.”

“Fascism – You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.”

“Communism – You have two cows. Your neighbors help take care of them [maybe] and you share the milk.”

“Capitalism – You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell them and retire on the income.”

“Anarchism: You have two cows. The cows decide you have no right to do anything with their milk and leave to form their own society.”

“Marxism/Leninism: The proletarian cows unite and overthrow the bourgeoisie cowherds. The egalitarian democratic cow revolutionary state with the cow party as vanguard disintegrate over time. Marx choked on a veggie-burger before he could explain what happens to the use-value, exchange-value and sign-value of bovine leather.”

”Nazism: You have two cows. The government takes both and then shoots you.”

America is one of the few countries that has the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution (First Amendment). That means we have to allow someone to spit out vile propaganda even when it offends us, so we can do the same. Does it mean one won't face consequences for their words? Of course not. No one can falsely yell "Fire!" in a crowded room, just for kicks. Try to pull-off some of the same protests in other countries and see how far you get. How many of the idiots at Columbia are willing to go to Palestine in support of Hamas. 

Not a lot, especially not those representing the alphabet community (Hamas does not recognize relationships other than heterosexual) and they want all Jews dead. So, the big question for those people is why are they supporting an organization that would happily kill them, much less allow a protest?

I have to wonder.
